Best Christmas Gifts for Homeschoolers Are you looking for some educational and fun presents to give to family and friends? Avoid the traffic, long lines, and stress this year. I’ve put together a page of hand-picked gifts that I especially recommend for homeschoolers! These are items that our family already owns and enjoys, or that I've researched and would consider getting for the kids.
2007 Best Christmas Gifts for Homeschoolers
Duplo Basic Bricks
LEGO DUPLO Basic Bricks Duplo Basic Bricks is a big set of bricks for a reasonably good price. (Little kids don't care if it comes in a cardboard box and not a fancy storage container.) It contains all of the basic DUPLO® bricks your toddler needs to build just about anything imaginable, plus some extra bricks for master preschool builders! DUPLO® bricks encourage hands-on, minds-on exploration and nourish young imaginations through free-form building with various shapes and colors while developing hand-eye coordination, problem solving, creative thinking, pattern recognition, motor skills and more. You just can't go wrong with these! For lots of early learning activities that you can do with them, see Little Brick Schoolhouse for ideas.
Liberty's Kids
Liberty's Kids is finally available on DVD at a price all families can afford! Before this, PBS sold it exclusively at the exorbitant cost of $500. (Yep, that's FIVE HUNDRED dollars!) Now you can get the complete series (all 40 episodes) of Liberty's Kids for only $44.99. It's really rare to see such a high quality animated children's show as this wonderfully entertaining and educational introduction to American history. The Liberty's Kids series is perfect for homeschoolers and the DVD set would be a great Christmas gift for your kids! If you are not familiar with the show, please be sure to read my review.
KJV Axis Bible KJV Axis: A Study Bible for Teens. Finally, a stylish King James Version of the Bible just for teens! The King James Bible is known for its poetic beauty and structure. While its language may sound archaic today, a familiarity with this version of the Bible prepares modern students for reading Shakespeare. (The King James Bible was published in the same year that William Shakespeare began writing The Tempest.) The Axis Bible includes interesting introductions to each book, plus timelines and maps to connect Bible events with the history and geography learned in school. The Axis encourages teens to read and study the Bible for themselves, showing them through unique features and engaging design that God’s Word is timeless and relevant to their culture today.
The Evidence Bible College students need to be equipped with tools for defending their faith and witnessing to others. The Evidence Bible is filled with many extras do help them do just that. In this book, Ray Comfort (co-host of the award-winning television show “The Way of the Master” with Kirk Cameron) provides commentary and wisely uses insights from great scholars throughout the centuries to confirm the truth of God’s Word. Read fascinating quotes from presidents, scientists, and other famous people. Study how to share your faith with relatives, friends, and strangers. Learn from Scripture how to prove God’s existence, and discover how to prove the authenticity of the Bible through prophecy. See how the Bible is full of eye-opening scientific and medical facts. Find out how to refute so-called “contradictions” in the Bible. Find answers to common questions and objections. Learn how to speak with an atheist, a Mormon, a Jehovah’s Witness, a Buddhist, a Hindu and a Moslem. This is not a comprehensive theological study Bible, but rather a learning resource and a tool for evangelism. It's a slightly modified version of the Authorized King James Bible that reduces archaic word usage, but remains true to the original without any paraphrasing or deletion of text.
The Way of the Master The Way of the Master - New Season! This program blends the high interest appeal of reality TV with the classic teachings of Christianity, making for a program that is both entertaining and enlightening. The third season was just released on DVD after two years in the making. Besides the regular "man-on-the-street" interviews, these episodes incorporate special effects and exciting action sequences like sky-diving, being chased by police, an old west shootout, reporting from a war zone, and jumping from a crashing plane. This season covers such diverse subjects as Hollywood's influence on the world, how to know God's will for your life, why Christianity is unique, and why America is losing God's blessings. Another new feature consists of insightful interviews with experts such as the late Dr. D. James Kennedy, R.C. Sproul, Joni Eareckson Tada, and Ravi Zacharias. There was a lot of great material that wouldn't fit into the required 28 minutes for broadcasting on television, so some of the DVD episodes are nearly twice the length of those on TV. They also include bloopers and outtakes! If you don't have the previous seasons, go back and get those, too. All are definitely worth having since even though they focus on a similar theme, each episode is completely different and fascinating to watch. In our house this is dad's favorite show by far, but the whole family enjoys it too. Order yours direct from www.wayofthemaster.com or read my complete review here first. By the way, my husband also recommends getting Expelled.
Learning for Life: Educational Words of Wisdom
This may seem like a shameless plug for my own book, but Learning for Life really is a unique, hard-to-find gift for the mom who has everything. It contains nearly 3,000 quotations by more than 1,000 people on teaching, learning, and the pursuit of knowledge. This treasury of classic and contemporary rhetorical gems will inspire and encourage you in your day-to-day teaching. I’m always looking up quotes in it myself, so I know that it’s a useful resource. I bet that once you start browsing through it, you won’t be able to put the book down. But don’t take my word for it! Consider what others are saying about Learning for Life: “Veteran homeschooling mom and writer Teri Olsen has packed her years of research into this handy, enlightening, and valuable book.” ~Kathy Davis, HomeSchoolBuzz.com “This wonderful inspirational book...is an amazing collaboration of time-honored quotes from history's great men and women.” ~Helene Charles, homeschool mom “The book...will inspire a person and in turn give wisdom. It is not only for home educators but also for all educators. I found myself immersed in reading them and saying "this is so true."” ~Margaret E. Bradley-Simard, Retired School Psychologist/Psychometrist To order Learning for Life, find out more about it, and/or read additional endorsements, please go to this page: www.knowledgehouse.info/learningforlife.html.

Jonathan Park audio dramas are some of the finest Christian entertainment you can purchase for your family. They are exciting and fun, wholesome and educational. I would recommend this series for ages 6+. Our entire family (children from age 7 through teens and including adults) enjoys it. We have all five Jonathan Park CD's and love them all. Go ahead and order the complete set because believe me, you will find that you want more than just one! In the tradition of old time cliffhanger radio serials, these will leave you on the edge of your seat! Even better, all of the thrilling adventure and intrigue is woven around real scientific and historical facts integrated with biblical truths about God’s wonderful creation. Each set comes with an accompanying study guide of additional resources, too! Read my complete review: www.knowledgehouse.info/review_jonpark.html
