Bible Study

KJV Kids’ Study Bible, by Lawrence O. Richards. The KJV Kids’ Study Bible uses the complete King James Version, a timeless treasure and traditional favorite that’s hard to find in children’s Bibles. Besides the faithful text of the King James, this colorful edition contains many helpful features and activities to keep the child’s interest. It has introductions to each book, a summary of what each book is about, thought questions for the child to understand God’s Word at their level, fun facts about life in Bible times, and important verses to remember. In addition, there are eight color maps that show where Bible events took place, and a dictionary/concordance.

Mathematics

Saxon Math 3

Saxon is the only major math program on the market that systematically distributes instruction, practice, and assessment throughout the entire text as opposed to concentrating, or massing, related concepts into a short period of time--usually within a unit or chapter. Saxon’s unique approach ensures that students not only gain but also retain essential math skills.

Science

God’s Design for Science, by Richard and Debbie Lawrence. This is a complete science curriculum for grades 1-8 all in one set! It covers life science, earth science, physical science, chemistry and ecology. Learn how real science supports biblical authority and the Genesis account of creation. The curriculum was designed specifically with homeschoolers in mind so the lessons are short, easy to teach, and take a hands-on approach using ordinary household items for experiments and activities. The recommended sequence is... Grade 1: Life Science; Grade 2: Earth Science; Grade 3: Chemistry; and Grade 4: Physical Science followed by Grade 5: Life Science; Grade 6: Earth Science; Grade 7: Chemistry; and Grade 8: Physical Science. Each subject has a "Beginners" section geared to elementary-age students, and when you start the series over again with middle school students you will use the more in-depth "Challenge" section. This way, each subject is taught twice to reinforce previous learning and develop deeper understanding of the concepts. (This also lets you teach younger and older children at the same time.) The curriculum comes with 16 softcovers (including both student & teacher books) and 4 CD-ROMs. All of the worksheets and tests may be photocopied for use with more than one student.

The Scientist's Apprentice, by Hilary Welliver. This complete one-year science curriculum allows you to teach all your kids in grades K through 6 together! Students learn about astronomy, anatomy, earth science, and oceanography through experiments, activities, songs, art and more. Includes detailed teacher information, lesson plans, bibliographies, and reproducible activity sheets. More interesting than a text and easier than creating your own study.

History/Geography

Liberty’s Kids. Teach your kids about the origins of the United States with this 6-DVD set! It's a sophisticated animated drama placing its young central characters – Sarah, James, and Henri – and their friend, Moses, into key events leading up to the American Revolution, the Revolutionary War itself, and its aftermath. Historically accurate, respectful of our Founding Fathers, and fun to watch, this series is a great introduction to American History!

  • Unit Studies on different states (using encyclopedias, library books, maps, postcards, magazines, travel brochures, etc.). Begin with your own state and then branch out to surrounding states. Do one state each week and you will have studied all 50 states in a year!

    Literature

    • Literature selections in grades 1-4 are generally used as read-alouds. Try to read at least one classic book to your child each month. If you can, choose literature that coincides with the historical era or science topic you are studying. Children should also practice reading fun books on their own level.
