MEET THE AUTHOR

Name: Teri Ann Berg Olsen

Birthplace: Buffalo, NY

Current Residence: I've lived in Arizona since 1976

Education: A.A.S. Library Technology, Mesa Community College, Mesa AZ

Occupation: Wife, mother, homemaker, home educator, church librarian, newspaper columnist, book author

Husband: I've been happily married to Richard since September 25, 1988. (Following an 8-year-long courtship!) Rich was born in Plymouth, Mass. He is a chemist/quality engineer.

Children: Three boys: Peter (b. 1990), Jonathan (b. 1995), Joshua (b. 2000)

Pets: the wild animals in our backyard wildlife habitat

Personality Type: introvert

Favorite Quote: "If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them." (Thoreau)

Personal Motto: "When I get a little money, I buy books; and if I have any left I buy food and clothes." (Erasmus)

Favorite Bible Verse: "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed…nothing shall be impossible unto you." (Matthew 17:20)

Hero or Role Model: Jesus

Favorite comfort food: Chocolate Chip Congo Bars

Guilty pleasure of choice: Eating Breyers Vanilla Fudge Twirl Ice Cream straight out of the carton.

Favorite Literary Genre: Children's Literature and Poetry

Favorite Authors: C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Robert Louis Stevenson, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Thomas Hardy, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Jane Austen, Emily Bronte

Favorite Books: The King James Bible, Walden, my trusty old thesaurus, and Learning for Life: Educational Words of Wisdom

Favorite Movies: The Sound of Music, Pride & Prejudice, Jane Eyre, Room with a View, The Quiet Man, The Lord of the Rings

Favorite Music: Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Celtic, Christian, Christmas Carols, Beatles

Interests: books, poetry, reading, writing, homeschooling, gardening

Hobbies: collecting rocks, shells, stamps, coins, postcards, bookmarks, snail figurines

What did you dream about doing when you were growing up? In my 4th grade journal, I wrote that I wanted to be a wife, mother, writer, reporter, secretary, librarian, teacher, and scientist. I've done all of those things except the last one - but I did marry a scientist! :)

Favorite subject: English

Worst subject: Math

Subject you learned the most about after graduating from school: History

Unfounded fear: Driving over high bridges

Terrible temptation: Chocolate

Secret satisfaction: Being alone

Chinks in Armor: I'm a perfectionist, so it often takes me a long time to get things done to my satisfaction. On the other hand, I don't have much patience when I'm waiting for someone else!

Interesting fact: My home library contains over 5,000 books.

Surprising fact: At one point in my life I was a self-educated amateur architect. My family and I are still living in the custom-built house that I designed.

Favorite place: my house; the ocean; the wilderness

Favorite vacation destination: The windswept coasts of Mendocino and Point Reyes, CA; the sandy beach along The Strand at Oceanside, CA. (I would love to visit the British Isles, New Zealand, and Cabo San Lucas but I've never been there.)

Pet peeve: Food manufacturers that put artificial colors in their products. I refuse to buy them.

Boiling point: People who attempt to re-interpret the original meaning of the Bible and the Constitution to fit their own personal bias.

Most paradoxical quality: I used to dream of being famous someday, but in real life I'm so shy that hardly anyone knows me.

What keeps me going: Counting my blessings and wishful thinking.

The hair from your last haircut... what would it say about your style? The more things change, the more it stays the same!
