Every year I hand-pick an assortment of products that would make great Christmas gifts for homeschoolers. Amazon affiliate links are included for quick and easy ordering. If you find something that you like, I'd appreciate it if you purchase directly through my links (click on the image or the bold text) so I can earn a small commission for my efforts. Thanks! :)
Learning Carpets City Life Play Carpet - I love this rug! It’s a great value for the price, it rolls out smoothly and lays flat, it’s easy to spot clean, and it’s great for open-ended play. Perfectly sized for Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars, complete with curvy roads and lots of parking spaces. Leave it on the floor as an area rug, or roll it up and put it away in the closet when it’s not being used. It’s lasted through many years of use by my three boys.
Matchbox 9-Car Gift Pack (Styles May Vary) - This Matchbox gift pack is perfect for vehicle lovers of all ages (3+). Pair the vehicles with the road rug above, and the kids will enjoy loads of instant fun for hours on end.
Kids First Intro to Engineering Kit - Intro to Engineering teaches the fundamentals of engineering to children with 25 step-by-step, hands-on experiments and building projects. Children ages 5-10 will learn how engineers apply their scientific and technical knowledge to design machines and devices. Start by learning some engineering basics with experiments on levers, forces, and pulleys. Build simple devices using these basic components. Move on to explore engineering on land by building vehicles with wheels, such as a race car and a wind-up car. Next, investigate engineering with air (and in the air) by building a helicopter, a pinwheel, a parachute, a glider, a balloon rocket, and an air-powered carousel. Then, build a diving bell, a sailboat, and a paddle boat to experiment with engineering in water. Finally, find engineering in your own home with experiments modeling the telephone and television. Comes with an educational 48-page guidebook.
DICEcapades Word Pirates - This award-winning educational game for kids ages 5 and up is kind of like Scrabble, but with dice. Each pirate takes a turn rolling letter dice and building a pathway of words. Players also use rock walls to block their enemies’ path in an effort to be the first player to build a bridge across shark infested waters and reach the treasure. The game is easy enough for beginning readers, but challenging enough for older kids and adults too. So it's fun for the whole family to play together.
Juggling Book Kit - My son learned how to juggle by following the step-by-step instructions in this Klutz book. It takes a lot of practice and patience, but just like riding a bicycle, once you get the hang of it you won't forget. Great for developing hand-eye coordination away from the computer! At Thanksgiving when his little cousins saw my son juggling with bean bags, one of them said wow, can you show me how to do that? He suggested asking "Santa" to get him this book for Christmas.
Magic Show Suitcase - What can I say, my son also learned how to do magic with a kit just like this. Not to be confused with Harry Potter, these are sleight-of-hand tricks and optical illusions. In addition to all the props, this kit includes the “Secrets of 100 Magic Tricks” book and instructional DVD starring an award-winning young magician named Ryan Oakes. Everything stores neatly inside the handy case.
Guitar Theme Heavy Metal Pencil & Pen Holder Display - Here is a nifty desk or nightstand accessory for musicians or music lovers. It can hold pens, pencils, rulers, scissors, guitar picks, or the microfiber cleaning cloth that comes with it. Then it will always be handy for cleaning their sunglasses, computer, iPad, smartphone screens, etc.
Video Game Storage/TV Stand - This video game stand is made of strong double wire construction, with broad feet for stability. The space-efficient design fits up to a 37" flat panel TV and holds game consoles, 4 controllers, games and accessories; lower shelves support up to 5 lbs. It's not machine-specific and works with most gaming systems except the Xbox One. Now they can organize and store their video game systems neatly!
Men's Santa Elf Sleep Caps - Stocking Cap for Sleeping - Christmas Hat - My husband wanted an old-fashioned stocking cap with a tassle for Christmas, to keep his head warm at night. I searched the internet and concluded that this fleece one is the best quality, and it also has the largest variety of choices. These hats come in 15 different colors/patterns so I had trouble deciding! There are plaid, camouflage, and cow prints as well as solid colors, but I decided on the moon/stars pattern since it's going to be used as a sleep cap. Instead of a ball tassle at the end, it has strips of fabric for the cap tail which looks nice and I imagine is easier to sleep on. These caps are handmade and ship from League City, Texas. You might want to get pajamas/slippers to go with it - or how about the Jedi robe below!
Star Wars Jedi Master Fleece Bathrobe - Dad will feel strong and special in this robe fit for a Jedi master - never mind that it's a bath robe, he'll be wearing it all around the house this winter! It's an officially licensed hooded robe made of 100% polyester fleece with an embroidered Rebel logo, a belt, and pockets. There is a 100% cotton terrycloth robe of similar design that's a bit cheaper, but the polyester one is more luxurious and better made.
Bosch PB360C Power Box Jobsite AM/FM Radio/Charger/Digital Media Stereo - The Bosch PB360C Power Box is the newer version of the Bosch PB360S that we got last year. The only difference is, the newer one has Bluetooth connectivity; everything else is the same. The Bosch Power Box 360 also comes in a deluxe version (Model PB360D), which includes a SIRIUS satellite radio port, 4-way GFCI power outlets, a remote control, and backlit control panel. Whichever model you choose, the Power Box is an awesome radio, rugged and geeky at the same time! I keep thinking it looks like something from Portal or Portal 2! It measures about 14 inches square, and the power cable is 6 feet long. It's meant to be a jobsite radio, but we have ours inside the house right now. It's great for the family room, basement, garage, workshop, outside gardening or playing in the backyard. You can even take it camping or on picnics. You won't want to carry it around a lot, because it's quite hefty, but it won't get knocked over that's for sure. Bosch has really engineered this radio well. The 360-degree stereo sound quality is excellent, with good bass and plenty of power even when running on the lithium-ion battery (not included). Its weather-resistant design keeps out moisture and dust. With its protective aluminum/rubber roll cage, this radio is practically indestructible. Plus it's much more than just a radio! The built-in digital media bay has a powered USB port and SD/MMC card slot for compatibility with digital memory card devices, as well as two auxiliary inputs for MP3 and CD players. Small devices like iPods or MP3 players can be safely cradled inside the compartment which has a flip-up cover to keep out dust and moisture. The Power Box will even charge your cellphone! My husband loves this radio so much, he always shows it to people and says what a great radio it is. We were using it over the weekend, both inside and outside, to play Mannheim Steamroller music while putting up Christmas decorations.
Mannheim Ultimate Christmas Collection [Amazon.com Exclusive] - Speaking of Mannheim Steamroller, over the years it's become our family's Christmas music of choice. My husband can't wait to start playing it the day after Thanksgiving. Founded by composer Chip Davis of Omaha, Nebraska, Mannheim Steamroller was among the pioneers of neo-classical electronic music in the 1980's - imagine classical music performed on electric bass and synthesizers! We love the way he takes the old cherished Christmas classics and remixes them in a modern, energetic, and fun way. It's such a joy to listen to! Amazon sells the whole collection in a nice wooden storage box.
Beyond the Mask DVD - The homeschool movie of the year! Produced and directed by homeschoolers, Beyond the Mask takes full advantage of the green screen and big-budget CGI special effects, which is rather groundbreaking for a low budget Christian movie. All of these qualities – along with its well-written story and brilliant acting – give Beyond the Mask that authentic blockbuster / cinematic feel. It weaves together all the elements of an exciting National Treasure type film without compromising on core biblical values or sacrificing a Christian worldview. At the same time, secular moviegoers will find themselves fully immersed in a movie that is fun and enjoyable to watch, without being turned off by an overly preachy story. Plus it stars John Rhys-Davies! A must-have for your family's DVD collection!
If you're still not sure what to get, you can never go wrong with an Amazon Gift Card! They come in cute tins with a choice of denominations, as well as E-mail, Print-at-Home, Greeting Card, and Facebook versions.
