Nicole Porter homeschools her two daughters and previously taught in Christian schools for over seven years. Her classroom and co-op teaching experience has been from kindergarten through 11th grade in the following classes: science, health, biology, history, art, drama and physical education. Nicole’s teaching style consists of a hands-on and creative approach. Her desire is to give students a love for learning that will continue on with them for life. Heathyr Antrim, a professional sign interpreter, teaches sign language to homeschoolers of all ages. Heathyr learned sign language in college at the U of A where she graduated with a degree in Special Education. Heathyr obtained a teaching certificate and opened a preschool where she could use her teaching background while homeschooling her own two children. She has interpreted at the college and elementary school levels.
Patty Sepp is an award-winning home educator. She recently applied for a position with the National Geographic Society and was accepted to attend their Geography Action Institute in Washington, D.C. The National Geographic Society chose one educator per state and she was chosen over all of the public school educators who applied from Arizona! Patty, a homeschool mom, hosts an internet geography project and teaches geography classes to homeschool students around the Valley.
Daniel Lonsberry is the author of a children's book, Mr. Tall Cactus & His Shorter, Prickly Neighbors. He also read an audio version of it. Mr. Lonsberry travels around the state teaching classes in Creative Writing, Expository Writing, Short Story and Drama Writing. He has taught in public schools, private schools, charter schools, for homeschool groups, disadvantaged inner city children, and on Indian reservations. He has an easily understood system, is a great Christian, and has a wonderful rapport with the kids...boys, too! He stresses the importance of reading as well. (He might even sing a little opera if you ask him to!)
Joe Oswald, Director of Home School Programs for Athletes in Training, offers weekly physical fitness classes for homeschoolers throughout the Valley. A professional coach and former youth pastor, his expertise in physical training and his passion for teaching has earned the trust of hundreds of homeschool parents and children. Athletes In Training is the premier provider of homeschool physical education classes, and Coach Joe continues to offer opportunities for children to interact socially, increase physical fitness, and have fun together.
Scott Lawrence has been a professional music educator since 1995. He has taught band at Phoenix Christian Jr./Sr. High School and Saguaro High School and has taught chorus at Coronado High School. He currently teaches general-music, elementary and middle-school chorus, and drama at Paseo Hills K-8 in the Deer Valley School District. Scott is a proficient saxophonist, pianist, and guitarist and is the Musical Director at Hope Chapel in Glendale. Scott’s teaching style is highly energetic and engaging. His passion is to instill in kids a love of music and to inspire creativity in their lives. "Musication: Where Music and Imagination Collide!" is a program offered to homeschoolers that helps parents give their K-6 children a well-rounded general-music education. Students will learn musical concepts through hands-on experiences with a variety of instruments.
Connie Youmans has been teaching art since 1975 and has taught in public schools as well as having her own business teaching art to individuals and groups (children, adults and families). She received her M.A. in Art Education from the University of Arizona in 1982. Having been trained in art education, she has experience in working with many media although she mainly teaches Drawing and Painting (pencil techniques drawing a variety of subjects, pen and ink techniques, charcoal drawing, pastels and the painting techniques of watercolor and acrylics). She is also open to any specific art medium if we request it.
